Lonely Planet chooses Taiwan among top 10 countries to visit in 2012

Los Angeles, Oct. 31 (CNA) Internationally renowned travel guide publisher Lonely Planet has selected Taiwan as one of the top 10 countries for travelers to visit in 2012 in an online article posted on its website Oct. 27. Taiwan ranked number nine for its thousands of kilometers of interlinked cycling routes and cyclist-friendly infrastructure developed in recent years.

According to Lonely Planet, the country is best seen on two wheels, as the Taiwanese authorities have embraced the cycling market with "enthusiasm and funding." The travel guide also cited the country's "jaw-dropping landscape" of huge sea cliffs and densely forested mountains, as well as the preservation of Chinese imperial treasures in the National Palace Museum, as must-sees. In addition, the country's fusion of Taoist and Buddhist culture and tradition, and its mouth watering cuisine, were listed as tourist attractions. Uganda topped the list, followed by Myanmar, Ukraine, Jordan, Denmark, Bhutan, Cuba, New Caledonia, Taiwan and Switzerland.
