英文履歷與英文自傳
基本上, 美國人在找工作時僅使用 "cover letter" 及 "resume" (唸研究所時, 學校也僅提供 CL & Resume 的寫法) Autobiography is too personal. 以公司的角度,你的專長與相關經驗, 以及工作態度, 對公司有何貢獻? 才是重點. 所以, cover letter 是製造第一印象的首要工具, 而 resume 則決定 hiring manager 是否安排 interview 的關鍵.
當然, 因為職場環境不同, 台灣的公司還是會要求應徵者提供自傳. 下列則為幾個可供參考的寫法: (大家也可以參考 ECT "英文自傳 / 英文履歷 修改版" 討論區中一些人所做的建議.) 所介紹的英語網站, 遣詞用字蠻容易理解; 當然還有不錯的, 請自行搜尋; 若有不錯者, 別忘了 Post 出來分享!
** Cover Letter: Yes, it adds to the wear and tear of looking for a job! But the good news is: the cover letter gives you another chance to emphasize what you have to contribute to the company or organization. (cover letter 是製造第一印象的首要工具)
** Good Cover Letter:
1.No spelling or typing errors. 小心不要拼錯字.
2.Address it to the person who can hire you. 如果知道誰是 hiring manager, 則可直接寫給他/她. Ex. Dear Mr. Smith,……………. 不知道則寫: To whom it may concern,…
3.Write it in your own words (這樣才不會有 “抄襲” 的感覺, 大家都寫一樣的句子. 模仿別人的寫法也是學習的好方法, 可是別全部抄下來.)
4. Being "natural" makes many people nervous. 因為要擔心文法或用詞適當與否, 所以就寫得不太自然．用詞可參考 “WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS COMMONLY MISUSED” http://www.bartleby.com/141/strunk3.html
5. Show that you know something about the company and the industry. 要表示出你熟悉該公司或產業在做什麼, 所以, 用功作功課, 好好 research 你所要應徵的公司.
6. Use terms and phrases that are meaningful to the employer.
** Resume: (其實就是 “如何推銷自己”)
1. The resume is a selling tool.
2. Your resume has to sell you in short order.
3. The most effective resumes are clearly focused on a specific job title and address the employer's stated requirements for the position.
resume 的組合:
1.姓名
2.通訊住址及電話或 e-mail
3.Objective: 此 resume 的目的: 如 To look for the position of Electrical Engineer (參考及對應你要應徵的職稱)
4.學經歷 (學歷與經歷排列順序, 依你是否剛畢業或要換工作為主)
5.Rewards, Publications and Projects: 曾得過什麼獎, 或出版的作品 (如學術論文….), 參加過的研究計劃….
6.Technical Skills: 會的應用軟體一一列出
** 如果, 你是剛畢業, 你的學歷 (科系, 學科…) 就是你的賣點, 所以 Education (學歷) 放在 Experiences 之前.
若為轉換工作, 則 Experiences (或 Professional Experiences) 需強調, 置於 Education 之前.
工作經驗以chronological 的方式書寫, 最近發生的先列出.
