引擎是透過吃油或是轉換蒸汽等能源而產生動力的裝置，由英文engine直接音譯而來。除了engine之外，多數狀況下也可以和motor一詞交換使用，作為「引擎」之意，但engine所指的引擎多半比motor要大。相關單字：jet engine「噴射引擎」，diesel engine「柴油引擎」，internal combustion engine「內燃機」。

技師把引擎蓋打開檢查引擎。
The new truck I bought has a diesel engine.
