塑膠（plastic）就是合成樹脂，因其易於取得、易於塑型與便宜的特性，前幾十年大量風行於全球，但其難以自行分解的問題，逐漸造成嚴重的環保問題，有鑑於此，2016 年 7 月全球超過 100 個非政府組織（NGO）便發起了減塑運動（the Break Free from Plastic movement）。而這樣的觀念也已經在台灣落實，如政府禁止商店提供塑膠袋與碗筷，個人提倡改用不鏽鋼、玻璃或矽膠餐具，而越來越多店家也以折抵消費鼓勵消費者攜帶可重複使用的容器。
