外送服務（food delivery）原本是消費者透過電話訂購，由該餐廳派出服務員將物品送達並支付現金，近年由於網路與 App 發達，開始興起專門的外送平台（food delivery platform）。

外送平台最興盛的地方是在中國大陸，而在台灣也有愈來愈多的外送平台如 honestbee（已退出台灣）、Uber Eats 與 foodpanda。
