坊間認為晚上 11 點到 1 點是肝臟休息的時段，如果在這段時間熬夜不睡覺就會「爆肝」。在英文中雖然沒有爆肝的說法，但若要形容「開夜車（趕工、讀書）」，可以用 burn the midnight oil 或較口語的 pull an all-nighter 表示。
