賠償的英文為 compensation，此為名詞型態，動詞為 compensate；在英文中，使用名詞的頻率較為頻繁。

另外，compensation 一字也可用來表達薪酬之意。在法院用語中，也常使用 damages 一詞來表示「賠償」之意。
