In the past, the types of apps available for Apple and Android devices were also geared toward a more adult audience. Since more kids starting using smartphones, however, the choice of apps aimed at teenagers has increased dramatically, especially in the area of games. As tablets find a younger audience, the choice of games is expected to explode.
"Tablets are evolving and players of all ages now have much more choice than in the past," said Joe Gorman of U.S. retailer GameStop, which last year began selling tablets alongside game systems. In the U.S., spending on mobile games for tablets and smartphones is expected to grow from US$990 million (approximately NT$29 billion) last year to US$1.4 billion (approximately NT$41 billion) in 2016, estimates consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
