Taipei, Oct. 17 (CNA) Corporate representatives from Taiwan and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Monday to jointly make the first 3D (three-dimensional) animation featuring Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China. The animated film will be produced by Taiwan-based Studio 2 Animation Lab with technical support from Japanese broadcaster TV Tokyo Holdings Corp. and special effects developer Shirogumi Inc., according to the Institute for Information Industry (III). "It's a great honor to work with some professionals for whom we have a lot of respect. We feel very lucky and will cherish the opportunity," said film director and head of Studio 2's creative team Chiu Li-wei. "What we are pursuing in this partnership is to learn from Japan's experience and combine it with Taiwan's technologies while targeting China's market," Chiu said. The production of the 3D film, scheduled to be aired on both sides of the Taiwan Strait in October next year, will also involve three Chinese partners -- Beijing Film Academy, Nanjing Zhuque Animation Movie Co. Ltd. and Magic Dumpling Entertainment, the III said. These participants from Taiwan, Japan and China plan to form a "Sun Yat-sen Alliance" to shoot a series of TV dramas and movies in the future, the III noted. According to the creative team, the film will feature the 1911 Revolution that toppled the Qing Dynasty and established the Republic of China in 1912.
