形容東西很好吃，很多人習慣用：

The food is very delicious.（X）

這樣說不對。Delicious感覺是一個簡單的字，國中就學過，意思是「美味」，「好吃」，既然是非常好吃，就加一個very，為什麼不對？

一般談東西好吃，我們會用

（O）It tastes good.（嚐起來不錯。）

（O）It’s tasty.（很好吃。）

Delicious是一個「強烈形容詞」（strong adjective），delicious = very tasty

Delicious這個字本身已經有「非常」、「絕對」的意思，再和very合用，就會讓人覺得誇張不實，不像英文。而且單就講delicious，指的就是好吃得不得了，照理也不應該那麼常出現。

不只是華人，很多亞洲人也過度使用delicious，在「English Language&Usage」網站上有網友分享，韓國人也習慣用delicious：

『my wife is Korean and kept using "delicious" in conversation when she meant "tasty" （and saying things that sounded strange to my ear, like "this isn't very delicious"）. "Delicious" is very strong praise -- "this is delicious" is more akin to "this is fantastic" than "this tastes good." 』

「我太太是韓國人，她常說東西delicious，但她真正的意思是tasty。但有些句子我聽起來就很怪，像"This isn't very delicious"（這不是太好吃了）Delicious是一個很強烈的讚美，更接近『這真是人間美味』而不僅僅是『這很好吃』。」

這樣強烈的形容詞，不用very形容，也不會出現在疑問句或否定句：

Is the beef delicious？（牛肉好吃嗎？）（X）

It's not delicious.（不好吃。）（X）

簡單改成：

Is the food good？（O）

真的非常好吃，還是可以講"Delicious！"，不那麼好吃可以說："It wasn’t that good."

【進階版】

Delicious除了形容食物極度美味之外，它也有抽象意味，可以用來形容故事、八卦笑話、期待：

（O）I have some delicious gossip to tell you.（告訴你一個有趣的八卦。）

（O）He has a bag of delicious stories.（他有許多好聽的故事。）

（O）He waited in delicious anticipation.（他滿心期待地等著。）
