My thoughts exactly! 心有靈犀！

當談話的對象跟你心有靈犀時，你就可以說這句話表示同意或是驚歎。這個句子的另一種說法是 My thoughts precisely.

• A: Let’s go to a movie. 看電影去！
• B: My thoughts exactly. 我正有此意。

Come in handy 派得上用場

It will come in handy, 會用得著它的。有些東西現在看起來沒用，但你肯定會有用得上的時候，就可能說這句話。

• A: I want to throw this bag away. 我要把這個包包丟了。
• B: It will come in handy on your trip. 旅行時用得著啊。

Any ideas? 你有想法嗎？

這個句子用在徵詢別人的意見時，是 Do you have any ideas?這個句子的簡略說法。

• A: We’re looking for a new partner. Any ideas, John? 我們在尋找新夥伴。你有什麼想法嗎，約翰？
• B: Sure. How about a joint venture?有啊。你覺得合資如何?

work on something 是表示在努力做某件事，既花時間又耗精力。比如有一個計畫需要完成，你就得要去 work on the project。

• A: How come I haven’t seen you recently?怎麼最近一直沒看到你？
• B: I’ve been busy working on my new project.我最近一直在忙我的新案子。

That’s music to my ears. 我最愛聽這種話了

這句話的意思是 That’s what I like to hear.表示對方說的話，正好是自己喜歡聽的，一如天籟般悅耳。

• A: I heard you’re finishing up your test this month. 聽說你的測試本月完成了。
• B: Say that again. That’s music to my ears. 沒錯，這話聽起來太悅耳了。

Be way off base 大錯特錯

off base 源自棒球用語，離開之意，口語中引申為大錯特錯的意思，而前面加上way 非常地，用來加強語氣，表示大錯特錯。

• A: I think she is plotting against me. 我覺得她在設計我。我看得出來她不喜歡我。
• B: You’re way off base. She told me she thinks that you’re very nice. 你大錯特錯。她跟我說過他覺得你人很好。

Either way 不管怎樣

當眼前有兩個狀況供你選擇，但其實不管選哪一種，最後結果都是一樣的，此時你就可以有 either way…為開頭，宣佈結果。

• A: I can’t decide on the blue or the red dress for tonight. 我無法選擇今晚穿紅色還是藍色的洋裝。
• B: Either way, you’ll look sexy. 不管怎樣，你都會很性感。

How many people are in your party? 請問你們有幾位？

飯店住宿或正式餐廳吃飯，一進門就會聽到 How many (people)are in your party? 這句話。這是在問你們總共有幾位，是很正式的禮貌問法。此處的 party 意思指一群人。有時會用更 How many?簡單帶過。

Be nowhere in sight 不見蹤影

be nowhere in sight 就是怎麼找也找不到的意思，sight 這個詞就是視線的意思。Nowhere 在英語中的用法卻是很靈活。

• A: We’re been waiting for the bus for over an hour. 我們已經等了一個多小時的公車。
• B: I know. And it’s still nowhere in sight.我知道，還是不見公車的影子。

I can live with that. 雖不滿意，但可接受

別人提出要求，你也不是百分百滿意，但又不想繼續討論或爭執下去，這時用這句最貼切。

• A: The boss says you can take a week off, but you’ll lose some pay. 老闆說你可以休一周假，不過薪水照扣。
• B: I can live with that. 好吧，雖不滿意，還可接受。

Take the credit 居功

credit 是功勞讚揚的意思，take the credit 就是指因為功勞而接受讚揚，可以用於正面的居功。

• A: You are amazing.你真令人不可思議。
• B: I can’t take the credit for this job. We all worked hard on it. 這工作做得好也不全是我的功勞，大家都很努力。

也可以是用在負面邀功。

• A: He always takes all the credit for my work. 他老是拿我的工作去邀功。
• B: You should tell the boss about it. 你應該跟老闆說。

As in…就像

as in 這個用法是補述，以便能讓別人更明白自己的意思，常用在解釋拼寫單詞的時候。

• A: My name is Meg. 我叫梅格。
• B: Is that M as in Mary, E as in elephant, and G as in girl? 那是 Mary 的 m, elephant 的 e, girl 的 g 嗎？

You’ve got a good head on your shoulders.你很聰明

說對方肩膀上頂著一顆好腦袋，當然就是在稱讚對方很聰明。要稱讚別人，除了You are smart/clever/intelligent.之外，還可以用更有趣的說法。

• A: You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. You’ll figure it out. 你有顆聰明的腦袋。你會想出來的。
• B: But why can’t you just tell me how to do it? 但為什麼不直接告訴我怎麼做？

It runs in the family. 這是家庭遺傳

在美語中，不論是好事還是壞事，都可以用 it runs in the family.這個句型，將自己或對方的一些習性歸因成是家庭遺傳，例如：

• A: He’s an alcoholic. 他酗酒。
• B: That’s no surprise. It runs in his family. 沒什麼好大驚小怪的。這是他們家族遺傳。
