LINE, one of the most popular Asian chat app companies, its now (1) roll out first theme park. The temporary show opened in Taiwan last month and will run until April 27. LINEs in-game purchases (A) accounted for an impressive 60 percent of the $120 million(2)revenue in the last quarter of 2013.
If one expects (B) roller coasters or big dippers, one will be disappointed. This is more like an exhibition, which features statues of characters, a model town, artwork and other photogenic props that kill your camera shoot button. Essentially, it could be called a real life LINE Pop Up store, which have opened in a few countries in Asia.
Inside the theme park, Cony, Moon and Brown, the most popular and successful LINE sticker characters, are well placed and decorated in every corner in the forms of statue, artworks, doodles, and interactive live touch designs. More than that, shuttle buses that go from stop to stop, painted with these super stars are carrying commuters through some regions of Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan.
This idea might seem ridiculous in Europe or the US, but it isn’t exactly uncommon in Asia. LINE is now (3)in progress on its (C) household brand as Rovia has done with Angry Birds, and its attempts and efforts with physical stores and exhibitions show how ambitious it is.
“LINE is planning similar initiatives all over the world,” a representative said. “We know it is already big in Asia and is targeting Latin America, but let’s see if the theme park plans include Europe and The US.”
