A penny for your thoughts? 字面上的意思是「(我可以)用一分錢來買你的思想(嗎)？」
其實就是在問What are you thinking about? (你在想什麼？)
當發現一個人若有所思，想知道他/她在想什麼時就可以用這句來問
要注意因為它其實是個問句，所以在說時句尾要用上揚的問句語調
比如：
A: A penny for your thoughts? (你在想什麼？)
B: I’m thinking about what to make for dinner. (我在想晚餐要煮什麼。)
A: A penny for your thoughts? (你在想什麼？)
B: Nothing much. Just wondering about Nancy. (沒什麼。只是在想南西的事。)
A: What about her? (她怎麼啦？)
B: She seemed a little distant this morning. (她今天早上好像有點冷漠。)

不過要順便教大家的是
What are you thinking about? 和 What are your thoughts? 兩句話的意思是完全不同的哦
What are you thinking about? 是在問對方在想些什麼
但是What are your thoughts? 是在問對方對當下在談論的事情的看法
也可以說 What are your thoughts/opinions on this?
