不入戲很難成為好演員，但如果“太入戲”、演的過了火候，恐怕也很難被稱為好演員。俚語中，“演戲演過頭”可表達為“to chew the scenery”。

    “Chew the scenery”最早可追溯到古希臘。在古希臘戲劇中，人們常用該短語來形容那些矯揉造作、演得過於“熱情”的新手。“Scenery”在此當然不是表示“風景”了，而是用來指代“舞臺布景”。

    試想，舞臺劇中，最與演員息息相關的是表情、道具或演出服，但欠火候的演員卻無法恰到好處詮釋表演的真諦 —— 他們“把精力放在了舞臺背景上”（to chew the scenery）。

     此外，“演過頭”並不僅僅拘泥于“to chew the scenery”這一種表達，您還可用“to over-act”或“to ham it up”來表達“演過頭”。

    看下面一個例句：Instead of chewing the scenery as he has in other films, the actor delivered a subtle performance. （他這部電影演得很逼真，不象以前演的那樣造作了。）
