4. 討論 (Discussion)
研究結果只是在自然情境或實驗操弄下所呈顯的現象或數據，但更重要的是去透視這些現象及數據背後的本質、起因、或模式，以及這些結果如何應用在其它情境和研究領域。撰寫時應包括以下數節:
4.1 探討重要的研究發現 (A Review of the Important Research Findings)
4.2 研究的涵義/應用 (Implications/Applications of the Study)
4.3 研究限制 (Limitations of the Study)
4.4 建議未來研究 (Recommendations for Future Research)
4.1 探討重要的研究發現
解釋研究結果: 在語氣上通常會比較保守謹慎，可採用以下幾種寫法:
(1) 在句構上多採用表可能性的助動詞如may, might, could, would等字。
(2) 句中加副詞如probably, possibly, perhaps或形容詞possible, probable等。
(3) 使用建議性或主觀性的動詞如suggest, seem, appear, believe, tend to等。
例: What factors have led to the overwhelming popularity of the PC? Probably the major reason for its success is the fact that it is easy to operate.
是什麼因素導致PC大受歡迎呢?也許其成功主要原因在於它容易操作。
比較研究結果:與前面探討文獻時所提過的研究作比較，不但可以對照自己的研究在整個領域的定位和貢獻，亦可形成論文前後呼應的效果。
l 在比較不同研究時常用現在式，而且常用動詞如echo, parallel, support 或介系詞片語如be consistent with, be compatible with, be congruent with, accord with, correspond to, match with, in line with, in agreement with等眾多方式寫作。
例: These results are entirely consistent with those reported for hyperactive children on stimulant medication in previous studies.
這些結果與先前用刺激藥物治療過動兒的研究完全一致。
4.2 研究的涵義/應用
l 討論自己的研究在理論和實務上的重要性為何，可呈顯何種理論意義或應用價值。
l 在句型上通常會以suggest, imply, indicate, provide, lead to等動詞來引導研究義涵的寫作。
例: Our research has suggested three potentially important influences of cognitive style on the use of educational CMC.
本研究建議三個可能是認知風格對於在教學上使用CMC的重要影響。
4.3 研究限制
l 針對研究過程中所遭遇的問題、困難、或不足之處提出說明，供讀者閱讀時參考 。
l 寫作上表達「限制」相關字彙可用limitations, problems, flaws, questions, shortcomings (大部份都是用複數形) 。
例: Although the present study has yield findings that have both theoretical and pedagogical implications, its design is not without flaws.
雖然本研究結果獲致理論與教學上的義涵，但其研究設計上仍有瑕疵。
4.4 建議未來研究
l 提出未來相關研究可行的方向供有興趣的同儕參考，建議未來在不同條件下可從事的研究，也許可以解決現有的困難或增補不足之處，以改良目前的研究成果。
l 表「未來」的相關字彙有future, further, next, additional，而表「研究領域」可用area, line, field, avenue等字加of research。
例: An important area for future research in the years to come will be in the refinement of approaches to the analysis of test method characteristics.
未來幾年研究的重要領域之一，將針對考試方法的特點增強分析方式。
