外籍老師有一天突然問我：「你覺得哪一種英文教學最糟糕？」我愣了一下，因為我經常回答的正面問題：哪一種英文教學最有效。我想了想，回答說： classroom English ( 教室英語 ) 。只要在英文下過功夫的人，都會在某一個時間點上遇上「教室英文」這個瓶頸。它最大的問題就是：一個本來可以用有很短的字就表達出來的概念，但我們習慣用很長、很難的字， 或者說 " 用太多的 big words" 或 " 誇張的英語 " 。

以下這些字多用，你就會跳脫「教室英文」！

1. On top of that
老外很喜歡用這個字，這個片語一定要譯成中文，大約「除此之外」，或是「更重要的是」。例如 ” 是 On top of that The unemployment rate is rising, and on top of that, factory orders are also down.（失業率增加了，除此之外，工廠的訂單也減少了。）

2. Stay on top of
Stay on top of something 指一直努力表現到最好，想把英文講好，也可以說成是 Stay on top of English at work。
I've been working very hard to stay on top of my work.（我一直很努力工作將我的工作做到最好）

3. On the ball
On the ball 來自於運動場。當你on the ball，就得警覺並處於掌控制地位。"Make sure you are on the ball with those reports." 相反的是 drop the ball，意思是你沒有完成任務並讓和你一起工作的人失望了。

4. Get the ball rolling
Ge! t the ball rolling 意思是開始做一件事，而且讓它可以很順暢地運作。 "Let's get the ball rolling on this project."如果這件事情已經進行到一半，你可以用 keep the ball rolling.表示維持運作順暢。

5. Multi-tasking
有 multi-tasking 能力的人或在同一時間完成多項任務。 "This week we need you to write a report, make a presentation, and review last year's earnings. I hope you can multi-task!"

6. Downtime
沒有多少工作要做、或者你的工作只是不像以前那樣忙，這樣的時段就稱作downtime. "If you have some downtime this week, please brainstorm some ideas for our next team outing."

7. Take the credit
credit 是功勞讚揚的意思， take the credit 就是指因為功勞而接受讚揚，可以用於正面的居功。
A: You are amazing.你真令人不可思議。
B: I can't take the credit for this job. We all worked hard on it.這工作做得好也不全是我的功勞，大家都很努力。

也可以是用在負面邀功。
A: He always takes all the credit for my work. 他老是拿我的工作去邀功。
B: You should tell the boss about it. 你應該跟老闆說。
