DORAEMON IN TAIPEI

There can be no doubt that Doraemon has proven his timeless appeal over the past few decades, and countless fans have been grabbing the opportunity to celebrate the character's "pre-birthday."

The "100 Years Before the Birth of Doraemon Exhibition" was previously held in Hong Kong to great success. "A lot of people in Taiwan grew up with Doraemon," said James Yang from the Gold Media Group, co-organizer of the exhibit in Taipei. "For a long time, we have had our eye on bringing this exhibit from Hong Kong to Taiwan."

The colorful and fascinating exhibit showcases 100 unique Doraemon figures along with different pieces from his well-known repertoire of secret gadgets, such as the famous Takecopter, Super Gloves and Anywhere Door

"When his friends Nobita and Shizuka are in trouble, Doraemon whips out a gadget from his 4D pocket to help them solve their problems ... That's the most charming aspect of the cartoon series," said Yang.

To complement the action figures, three classic scenes from the animated series, "The Night Before Nobita's Wedding!" "Goodbye, Doraemon!" and "Memories of Grandma," are presented along with exciting original, hand-painted celluloid animations from the father of the manga series and other artists who have worked on it. Visitors can also find out what Doraemon looked like before a robot mouse bit off his ears, turning his paint to a shade of depressive blue.

The Taipei exhibition includes a boutique café that serves up Doraemon's favorite snack — dorayaki, tiny pancakes with red bean paste — and some Memory Toast, a gadget that lets Nobita remember anything he copies onto the toast before eating it.

If you get the chance to see this wonderful exhibition, don't forget to snap a photo in Doraemon's time machine, or listen to a concert featuring the passionate but unbearable vocalist, Giant. This exhibition is truly the perfect way to celebrate one of Asia's most enduring cultural icons while simultaneously reliving our childhood memories.
