便利商店在台灣隨處可見。不論你走到任何角落,都會有個超商在等待你。便利商店的目的就是要提供方便。台灣人喜歡方便,所以便利商店也就應運而生。

The China Post recently reported that, the number of convenience stores in Taiwan has reached the 10,000 mark. With a number like this, it means (A)
 fierce competition between businesses, with each trying to gain its status by standing out from one another.
中國郵報最近報導指出,目前台灣便利商店的數量已經達到了10,000家。造成了超商之間無比激烈的競爭 。每一家都竭盡心思的在展現自己的特色,以便獲得民眾的青睞。

Take 7-11 for example, the once mini chain convenience store has since evolved into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. Once selling snacks, (B)signature hotdogs and tea eggs, it started to (C)branch out upon realizing that working people and students tend to frequent the stores for a quick purchase. The stores’ increase in profits meant increase in space. And now 7-11s all over Taiwan have the convenience of multiple seating, bathrooms and everything from ATM services to postal services.
就拿7-11為例,這個早期只是小型連鎖便利商店,已經發展成為價值不斐的的企業。原來只賣零嘴,招牌熱狗和茶葉蛋的 7-11 開始展店,是因為意識到上班族和學生希望便利帶來的商機。利潤越做越大,跟著空間自然也就越來越寬敞。現在台灣的7-11不僅提供座位、廁所外,還有從提款機到郵政服務等多項便利服務。

Last year, as reported by Taipei Times, the sales of food products in 7-11 topped even those of MacDonald’s, with a total of NT $25 billion. This impressive statistics brings along fierce competitions from “Family Mart.”
根據台北時報的報導,7-11去年一年的總食品銷售額一共是新台幣250億元,甚至超越麥當勞的收入。這個讓人瞠目結舌的統計數字,吸引了“全家便利店”加入這場激烈的競爭。

Family Mart, established in 1988, (1) goes with the flow; in the township of Jenai, Nantou County, it has a 500 ping outdoor seating area for visitors to look at the Cherry Blossoms.  In Sun Moon Lake, the stores sell assortments of pineapple cakes and Kinmen Kaoliang for the Mainland Chinese visitors.  In fact, it’s also the only store that has brought its business into the funeral parlor. Operating 12 hours only each day. It’s serviced by three handicapped employees to provide a gateway for the challenged to have an employment opportunity.
1988年在台灣建立的全家便利商店,其經營方針採順應潮流方式; 在南投縣仁愛鄉,有500坪戶外座位區,供遊人觀賞櫻花。日月潭的分店會賣鳳梨酥, 金門高粱酒給前來觀光的中國旅客。最特殊的就是它是目前唯一將其業務帶至殯儀館內經營的超商。每天只營業12小時。由三位身心障礙者負責, 為身心障礙人士提供了一個就業管道。

These two are so far the big winners in the market game, but in the near future, OK mart and Hi-Life also plan to expand their enterprises; their aim right now is to first expand space.  It’s a (2) dog eat dog world and time will tell when this happens.
這兩家龍頭是迄今超商競賽中的大贏家。但很快地OK 便利商店和萊爾富,也打算擴大企業經營版圖,目前目標先放在擴大內部空間。這殘酷無情的商場競爭,誰會是贏家,時間會說明一切。
