世足開打，熱力從百貨、連鎖店到彩券延燒到辦公室。你在上班盯著網路螢幕，心繫巴西....，突然老闆從身後走過，講一句：Stay in the ballgame！

哇，怎麼有這好的老闆，還叫你看好球賽。錯了，他是叫你認真工作。

跟足球相關的術語，上網就查得到，我們不談，今天來看看球賽衍生出來，傳神又"ready to use"的英文。

1、Stay in the ballgame 全神貫注；聚精會神的意思
比賽時，教練都會要求所有上場或板凳球員們能夠將注意力集中在球賽上面。延伸形容人做事時要全神貫注的意思。

Let’s stay in the ballgame! Don’t be distracted by the minor detail of the project. 讓我們全心貫注吧! 不要被這個案子的一些不重要的小細節分散了我們的注意力。

2、Take one’s eye off the ball 疏忽；分心的意思
原本用於球賽中; 如果球員未聚精會神，可能主導權就會被對手搶走，導致輸球。引申為疏忽或分心的意思。

If our team take our eye off the ball, we will lose our chance to win the contract. 團隊一有疏忽，我們就有可能拿不到合約。

3、On the ball 有效率；敏捷
比賽時，如果某位球員能夠很有效率的接球或傳球的話，我們就會說這位球員 is on the ball.

Kathy is really on the ball. She always seems to have the right solution to a problem and can get the job in a timely manner consistently. Kathy做事很有效率。她總是有辦法解決難題並且在時間之內完成。

4、Level playing field 公平競爭的環境；公平機會
兩個隊伍在進行比賽，如果一方的場地好，而另一方的場地卻充滿了坑坑疤疤的洞或泥巴，這樣就不公平。如果兩方都有一樣的場地，那麼就能公平的競爭。level playing field指的就是公平競爭的環境。

We've got 2 teams trying to compete for the logo design contest. We need to be on the same level playing field to start with to see which team will win the contest. 我們有兩個團隊在進行商標設計的競賽。我們必需在公平競爭的環境下看那個團隊最後能贏得比賽。

5、Gamesmanship 小動作；不擇手段取勝
運動比賽中，假設教練允許利用不擇手段的方式來贏得比賽，我們就會用gamesmanship 這個字來代表這種耍小動作的行為。後來延伸為不擇手段取勝的意思。

I don't trust doing business with this company. They are well known for their shady gamesmanship. 我沒辦法和這家公司做生意。他們以不擇手段的行為聞名。
