Sunflower Movement leaders vow new action if President Ma disregards their demands (2014/04/09)
A day before students are scheduled to leave the Legislature, one of their leaders issued a warning to President Ma Ying-jeou. The students are deeply opposed to a bill proposed by the Cabinet to monitor agreements with China and say they will renew large-scale demonstrations if it passes in its current form.
Chen Wei-ting, a student leader of the Sunflower Movement, appeared relaxed and smiling as he took part in an interview for an online organization.

If, in the end, they decide to adopt the Cabinet version of this bill, then we will rush in again, or perhaps everyone will surround the Presidential Office or even break into the Presidential Office.
Chen said that on the eve of the March 18 (occupation of Legislature), members of the Sunflower Movement had originally wanted to rush in and occupy the Presidential Office. Unfortunately, their numbers were too few and they soon abandoned this action. But if the Ma administration goes ahead with its plan, they warn more protests will ensue.
These remarks served as a warning to Ma, who earlier criticized the necessity of a citizens’ version of the monitoring bill. Opposition lawmakers also found Ma’s comments hard to accept.
Wu Ping-jui
DPP Legislator
President Ma wants a sort of administrative dictatorship. A famous quote of his is when he said that the citizens’ version of the monitoring mechanism is like the Legislature overriding Cabinet powers. He is making a fool of himself when he says something that so completely goes against common knowledge of constitutional rule.
Lee Chun-yi
DPP Legislator
This reveals that they feel the Legislature should simply serve the Cabinet.
The DPP says if the Ma administration continues to promote a Cabinet-backed monitoring bill, it will once again inspire distrust among citizens concerned about opaque trade negotiations.
