"Point"這個字簡單又好用,用在對的時機,讓人覺得你英文好得不得了。
(1)Beside the point:與所討論的問題無關。
We are now discussing the sales plan, so your question about cost reduction is beside the point.
我們在討論業務計劃,你對降低成本的問題離題了。
(2)A case in point: 適當的例子。
Powerful managers are not always protected from being fired. Mr. Brown is a case in point.
有力的主管也不見得就不會被革職,布朗先生就是個例子。
(3)Get to the point:說重點。
We’re running out of time. Let’s get to the point.
快沒時間了,我們說重點吧!
(4)Get/take someone's point:瞭解某人的意思。
What did you say just now? I didn't quite get your point.
你剛說什麼?我不太懂你的意思。
(5)Have a point: 有可取之處。
I admit (that) you have a point there.
我承認你說得有點道理。
(6)Make one's point:表達了意思。
Jack, you have made your point well. Thanks for fleshing out your thoughts.
Jack,你講得很清楚,謝謝你很具體說出內容。
